I have had a lifelong interest in biology and nature in general.  This is partly why I gravitated towards the medical specialty of Allergy and Immunology.  This field involves, among other things, the study and treatment of abnormal (allergic) reactions to naturally occurring and man-made substances such as pollens, molds, foods, insect venoms, chemicals, etc.   On this site, I've assembled information about allergies and allergic diseases, as well as information about immune system disorders that can predispose people to frequent, severe, or rare infections.  There is also information about medically significant poisonous plants, fungi and venomous animals found in the southeastern United States.
